File transfer in compressed format between 2 PacsOne...

Post by Antw1 » Wed Mar 02, 2005 3:02 am

We're having CR equipment in 2 different locations (FL and NY) and would like to centralize our images on the NY server.
Would be nice if we could setup another PACS server in FL that would autoroute the day's worth of xrays in a compressed format to the NY server.
That would save some bandwith and could work at off-peak hours.
I'm not talking streaming images, just zip at one end, unzip at the other...

How feasable would this be ?
Anybody else interested by such a feature ?

With the current version of PacsOne Server Premium Edition, you can define a fixed off-peak hour schedule to auto-route all newly received images at one server location (e.g., FL) to a remote AE (e.g. NY), but the transfer is performed using the original formats the images were encoded by the modality, which can be either compressed or uncompressed.

There're plans to add JPEG compression/decompression (codec) to dynamically translate from one transfer syntax to another (compressed or uncompressed), but there may be some costs issues involved as some of these codecs are not free and may require some licensing fees.
