Is there a way to place links for each letter of the alphabet on the main page to list only those patients with the last name beginning with the letter clicked on?

No, currently you'll have to click on the Search page and enter 'A*', 'B*', etc. to find all patients whose lastname begins with 'A', 'B', etc.
