BUG? Study level information appears in Patient level

Post by Erik Traasdahl » Sun Jan 04, 2004 2:54 pm

First : It is a very nice/interesting peace of software.
I have the opportunity to test PacsOne in a real PACS production environment at the university hospital in Northern Norway (UNN)- PACS : Agfa Impax

I belive I have found a "bug" or error in the logic :

In the "patient" table there is an entry called "history" which I believe belongs in the "study" table.

It seems like the PacsOne server pulls out the DICOM attribute:

(0032,1030) LO ReasonForStudy

which is an study-level attribute and puts it into the "history" entry in the patient table. This information is different for every study (of course)

So what happens when you send multiple studies for a single patient to PacsOne? The "history" field is overwritten several times, and only the history from the last study appears.

Also, in the web-interface, this information should appear in the "study", "serises" and "image" sections (study and lower levels).

This information is of course very important (invaluable) to the interpreter of the images. This attribute is produced in the RIS and ends up in every instance belonging to that study..

Any comments on this?

The "history" field of "patient" table is parsed from the DICOM tag:

(0010,21B0) - Additional Patient History

and the current PacsOne version ignores the (0032,1030) Reason For Study tag.

Can you check with the sender of the images to see what values get put into the (0010,21B0) attribute as well as (0032,1030)?

On the other hand, since at least one user thinks the (0032,1030) tag is important so I'll add this tag to the "study" table and make it avaialble in the next release.

BUG ?

Post by Erik Traasdahl » Sun Jan 04, 2004 11:25 pm

Hello again.
The Three tags :

(0010,21B0) - Additional Patient History
(0032,1030) - Reason For Study
(0033,100C) - Don't know this one?? Private?

contain exactly the same textual information : Clinical info for this study.
I dont know at what level the first tag "belongs". You know, even AGFA "cheats" some times to get things working :-) However - this study comes from an industrial PACS in full production..

Here are all the tags (Anonymized some tags).
One more thing : I have beeen punding PacsOne server like "hell" with thousands of images but it works very well - impressive.
Had to increase php-memory from 8M to 32M (php.ini) - checked it out - it uses 10-15M for processing/displaying 80 CT images.. Also increased alowable processingtime for php scripts (30->90 sec)

(0033,100C) is private (all attributes with odd-numbered group number are private in DICOM standard)

(0032,1030) - Reason For Study tag is used a lot in Worklist Management applications, I've not seen this tag frequently included in Storage class applications. But since it always helps to include as much information as possible, I'll add this field to the "Study" table in the next release.

It's available now in version 1.0.0.13.

Reason for study (0032,1030)

Post by E. Traasdahl » Sat Jan 17, 2004 1:13 am

Checked it out : the new field "reason" appeared in the Study table - but they are all empty
(Yes, I have removed the old patients and sent in new ones after the upgrade..)

Checked the dicom file headers and the info is there.
A little bug maybe? :-)

Would it be possible to send a sample image with the reason tag (0032,1030) to:

mailto:pacsone@pacsone.net

You can anonymize all tags if you're concerned about privacy, as long as the reason for study tag has a meaningful string.

Thanks.

Or you can modify the following registry setting:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Rainbowfish Software\PacsOne\LogLevel\

change the default "Information" to "Debug".

Then restart PacsOne Server and send an image with Reason For Study tag to PacsOne, and send the current PacsOne Server log file under the 'log' sub-directory where PacsOne was installed to:

mailto:pacsone@pacsone.net
