PacsOne with DHCP Clients - OSIRIX

Post by equarles » Mon Mar 23, 2009 2:49 am

I am somewhat new to the PACSONE world so excuse me it this is a newbie question, however, I have set up PACSONE in a physicians office and have two ultrasound machines successfully transferring images to the server.

The Doctor who I am working with would like to use Osirix on his MacBook to view the studies. This I have also successfully set up, however, to get it to work I had to enter a STATIC IP for the the MacBook in PACSONE to get it to work. The MacBook uses DHCP so I am concerned that some day soon he will get a different IP address and will no longer be able to connect to the PACS server.

So the real question is:

Is there a way to configure Remote AE's that do NOT have STATIC IP addresses?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you can leave the IP address field blank and fill in the hostname of the client PC instead. But this implies you run a DNS server/Domain Controller on your LAN so that the computers can be identified via their hostnames.

For example, you can try an IP ping of the client PC by hostname named laptop from the host where PacsOne is installed:

Code: Select all

C:\>ping laptop
If you can successfully ping the client PC by its hostname, then you can configure the client AE on that PC by the hostname instead of the IP address.
