"Show Dicom Viewer" Copyright "Divinev inc&qu

The new Java Viewer version 1.2 does not display anything...

Another thing with the java-viewer (not part of the PacsOne project - and posted by an anonymous user):
I think this viewer is based on the "Dicom Viewer" source code from
http://mars.elcom.nitech.ac.jp/dicom/index-e.html

The first version looked exactly like this one (Have used it myself!)
This viewer is GNU-GPL licenced, and if I'm right about this, others should not copyright this viewer/code and claim all rights.. (Divinev, Inc)..
My suggestion would be to leave the original copyright in place and make the source-code available according to the licence..

Please correct me if I'm wrong!
You may want to check it out yourself....

I'll investigate this and send inquiry to the author of the ShowDicom package.

I'm removing the ShowDicom package temporarily from the pacsone website until the contributor has this copyright issue worked out.

I think all he/she has to do is to include the original copyright/license statement from the original package and be done with it.

Thanks, Erik, for finding out this issue as it's certainly not appropriate.

The viewer

The PacsOne project is very promising.

I just think it would be a pity to include software that does not respect the rightful owner/licence. That will certainly turn off many potential contributors and eventually harm the whole project.

My suggestion would be to implement the original viewer into the project (seems easy), and post the whole viewer with the source code/licence/copyright notice on your website.

The viewer can then be developed further from your site. I think it will..

I'm working with 3 professional programmers on a teleradiology project, and we have been investigating PacsOne for a while. We might come back with contributions if the "open source" spirit is kept :-)

Just some thoughts... Erik

Erik,

Thanks for your points. I didn't notice this copyright issue until you posted your previous message. Therefore, I aksed PacsOne to pull it off from this site. Sorry for any inconvenience. I didn't claim any right from ShowDicom 1.0. Starting from 1.1, I have made major changes and added many new features including JPEG and RLE support that is ongoing. You message let me carefully reviewed the GPL license these days. I apologize for the mistake. However, there are some other issues that prevent me from posting all the source code publically. Let me know if you have any better solution for this group to share the application of ShowDicom.

I finally got some time to download this original applet package and made some modifications for it to work with PacsOne. The modified source codes can now be downloaded from PacsOne site per GPL requirements contained in the original distribution.
