Out of curiosity, I created both a short and long-term directory on the same drive just to see how the aging works.
Aging is enabled.
Purging by storage capacity is also enabled and the lower watermark is about to be reached.
Studies stay in short-term directory for about a week then they are migrated to long-term directory, where the oldest are now about 3 months.
Question: When lower watermark is reached, will Pacsone start purging studies on both directories simultaneously or will it start with long-term directory which contains older studies?

Mukoya.
Purging with Short and Long-Term Directories on Same Drive
Well, I have my answer, but not without running into deeep trouble!
The folder storing new studies for a week is called "PACSONENEW" While that holding studies older than a week is called "PACSONEOLD"
I adjusted the watermarks so I can test the purging dilemma.
To my shock - though I remotely knew this could happen-Pacsone embarked on deleting the studies in the NEW folder, meanwhile ignoring the OLD folder it was supposed to purge!
I guess this is because alphabetically, the folder with newer studies comes before that with older ones.
All studies performed in the last week were deleted down to a few performed today!
Luckily, I have them somewhere and I am now pushing them back.
I will first try to interchange the alphabetical order or find a way to do away with the OLD folder altogether.
Thanks.

1. Automatic Purging and Automatic Aging of storage directories are 2 completely different features, so you should not mix them up.
2. If Automatic Purging is enabled and you've configured PacsOne to purge by the low/high watermarks of the storage capacity, then once the low watermark is reached, PacsOne will start purging studies stored under the subject archive directory until the high watermark is reached. This purging option has nothing to do with when the studies were received. If you want to purge by the Study Date or the date when the studies were received, then you need to configure either those date options under the Automatic Purge settings.
3. If Automatic Aging is enabled, you typically should NOT configure both the short-term and long-term archive directories to be on the same drive, because moving the studies to different directories under the same drive does NOT change the storage capacity at all, unless the storage capacity of the drive is not one of the reasons for the Automatic Aging.

Thanks you for explanation.
Actually, I enabled aging on same drive during initial setup just for testing purposes to see if and how it works. I then forgot about it!
Anyway, I am now using study received date to purge, with aging disabled. This will work till all studies on second folder are purged then I will remain with one folder for this drive.
