Method to search reports?

Post by rayrad » Tue May 27, 2008 3:19 pm

Hi,

Is there a method to search the reports? For example, if I wanted to search for "cancer" within the text of the reports, is there any mechanism to do so?

thanks,
Ray

Do you mean searching the Dicom Structured Report (SR) received by PacsOne?

yes - unfortunately, I'm not that familiar with the dicom structured reports... except in dictating them.

Is there a straightforward mechanism to incorporate the reports?

I have in mind creating a teaching PACS based on pacsone.

thanks!

The Dicom Structured Reports (SR) are encoding most likely by the dictating application as Dicom files, and then send to PacsOne just like the regular images of the subject studies.

There are more straight-forward ways to incorporate the reports into PacsOne (rather than encoding them into Dicom files), as you can attach the report documents, e.g., Word, PDF or even plain texts, as study notes for the subject Dicom studies. All users will be able to access the report documents since the study notes are saved as bulletin-board style discussion forums, where the attached documents can be downloaded or viewed from within the browse just as any other multimedia documents.

Thanks for the clarification. Is there a way to search the text overall? IE, is there a global approach to search for instances of the phrase "cancer"? The bulletin style discussion is only for each report, and does not span different cases, I assume.

Thanks!

You can do a global search by Study Notes in the Search->Search By Study menu, but searching the texts within the Dicom SR is not supported yet. We'll try to implement this feature for the next release of PacsOne Server as it seems useful.
